I decided to add kimono into the name as the criss-cross fashion of the bodice and some of the fabric choices I made lent an Asian feel. The Dolman sleeves are incorporated into the bodice, so the sewing is fast. The waistline on this design is raised with a very forgiving fit. I have offered four cutting lines for the skirt on the pattern, so if you would like to make a version to wear with skinny pants or leggings, that is an available choice. I slimmed the skirt a bit for this dress as compared to Claire, but I added a fuller fold line also so you can choose for a full or slimmer skirt. There is also a tiered version. I decided to make that one like the tiered skirt in my Fashion Formula Skirts booklet where you cut strips for the last two tiers instead of giving a pattern piece. I think it simplifies things a bit.
This dress makes up very nicely in regular quilting weight cottons. Two of the dresses featured here are made in lighter softer fabrics. The tiered one is made from cotton voile and it is dreamy to wear...so soft and flowy. I highly recommend trying out this type of fabric for the dress. Another of the dresses (blue and gray) is made from cotton shirting. Cotton shirting is lighter weight than regular cotton, but not as light as voile. The result is a nice soft dress, another good fabric choice.

Is there a back view of this lovely dress anywhere? I have an aweful neck and can't have it too low in the back. Maybe I could alter it somehow? Help! I love this dress!

The back neckline of this dress is curved and high, so it sits on the body like a regular rounded neckline would. It does NOT cross in the back like the front, so I think you wouldn't have to do anything!
Looks like this woudl be a great dress for nursing mums?
The overlap in the front is pretty secure. I don't think it would open up enough for nursing.
I really love your dress pattern, but I am wondering... would it look better on a "thinner" person and is it a pattern for a beginner sewer?

My patterns are suited for a lot of different body types, not just thin folks! And the Diane is a great pattern for a beginner. There is no zipper to worry about!
hi, the dianne dress in red and the third light aqua blue dress, what are the fabric please. It is autumn now and there is some snow in the ground but these dresses make me think of the summer to come thanks

The red dress is Kaffe Fasset fabric for Westminster and the third dress is Queen Street by Jennifer Paganelli for Free Spirit. You can find the red fabric at www.quilthome.com. As for Queen Street, you will need to do some Google searching to find the pieces. Hope that helps!
I hate to say this out loud, but I wear a 3X and was wondering how difficult it would be to alter the pattern for my size. I consider myself not a beginner but not intermediate either. I'd love to wear dresses and skirts all summer! It is difficult to find dresses that are modest and that are long enough. Thanks!

Not sure how hard it would be to alter the pattern to fit your size. I would think that it would be fairly straightforward since there are not many pieces to adjust. I highly recommend purchasing a reference book called Fit for Real People. It takes you through the process of altering any tissue pattern to fit. It is a paperback book that is available through Amazon. Hope this is helpful!
